A Badass Book Club is a dynamic book club and networking group founded to address the unique literary needs and intellectual pursuits of today’s modern-day women and men of color. In a world where diverse voices are often underrepresented, we are committed to amplifying the voices of People of Color (POC) by curating a selection of books that not only entertain but also educate, challenge, and inspire.
Each month, we carefully feature books authored by POC writers, focusing on works that offer powerful insights into culture, history, identity, and the human experience. Our goal is to foster a space where literature becomes a tool for empowerment, knowledge, and creative expression. The books we choose are diverse in genre, ensuring that there is something for every reader, whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, poetry, or speculative writing. What ties all of our selections together is their ability to provoke thought and spark meaningful discussions among our members.
Ultimately, A Badass Book Club is more than just a book club—it is a platform for dialogue, empowerment, and connection. We are creating a space where voices of color are celebrated, stories are shared, and ideas are exchanged, all while building a supportive and inspiring community.
Our Story
Founded by Howard University alumnae, Kasey Woods and Natasha Dooley, A Badass Book Club stands as a proud example of Black excellence and intellectual exchange. The platform not only allows members to engage in stimulating conversations about the selected book of the month, but it also offers an exclusive opportunity to interact with the author themselves. After every formal meeting, we host an intimate Q&A session with the author, creating a rare and invaluable connection between the reader and the writer. This allows for deeper insight into the creative process, themes explored in the book, and an opportunity for members to ask questions and connect with the author on a personal level.
Our members are a vibrant, diverse group of smart, sophisticated individuals who value education, personal growth, and community. We believe that literature has the power to foster both intellectual development and a sense of belonging. Through A Badass Book Club, members are not only given a chance to discover new authors and perspectives, but they are also provided with a community where they can network with like-minded individuals who share their love for literature and cultural appreciation.
